This past year, Mercedes-Benz released 12 new models and sold approximately 2.3 million cars worldwide. It was the seventh consecutive record year for Mercedes-Benz, which increased its unit sales by 9.9 percent. It also marked the second year in a row that the German luxury automaker was the best-selling brand in the premium segment.
And although Mercedes-Benz India saw more than 19.6 percent growth in sales between January and September this past year from the same period in 2016, the luxury brand plans to strengthen its leading position in the Indian luxury car market by introducing more than 10 new products in 2018.
In doing so, Mercedes-Benz will maintain its focus on the four areas it defines as the future of the automotive industry — Connected, Autonomous, Shared & Services, and Electric.
According to Daimler AG, which owns the luxury brand, it believes that providing “the optimal combination of these four areas will be a crucial success factor for offering customers the most convincing overall package.”
At the highly anticipated Auto Expo 2018, held Feb. 9-14 February in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India, the premium brand’s key highlight of its 2018 product offense was centered on luxury, versatility and future mobility.
During the expo — which is now in its 14th year, and is the biggest event of the automotive industry in Asia and the second-largest worldwide — Mercedes-Benz India unveiled the new, ultrasophisticated Mercedes-Maybach S 650 sedan, which it’s dubbed “the pinnacle of luxury” and with which the carmaker has led its 2018 product charge.
The luxury brand also showcased its Concept EQ, the forerunner of the automaker’s new product brand in electric mobility globally, EQ, as well as the versatile new E-Class All-Terrain, an all-rounder sport-utility-like vehicle that Mercedes-Benz India is expected to launch mid-year.
In introducing the EQ brand of battery, which stands for “Electric Intelligence,” the luxury auto manufacturer continues its quest to move toward “creating a sustainable ecosystem of service, technology and innovation.”
