For lovers of the sweet, smooth sounds and diverse stylings of jazz, things are about to get a whole lot sweeter in Las Vegas. Along with the 29th season of the Jazz in the Park music series, Desserts in the Desert, a multiday tasting event featuring a delectable selection of sweet indulgences, will be held in the afternoon, prior to the free jazz concerts on May 26, June 2 and June 16.

Presented by Live to Give cause marketing agency, Desserts in the Desert’s sweet treats will be provided by local chefs, bakeries, restaurants and coffee shops. The array of decadent desserts — including cupcakes and pastries, as well as an assortment of luxurious chocolates — will be available for guests to enjoy from 4-7 p.m.
Attendees also can experience dessert pairings with craft beer, wine and cocktails. The event will present a whiskey pairing master class, too, for those who are adventurous and wish to further explore new combinations of flavors and tastes.

And while guests will be satiating their sweet tooth during Desserts in the Desert, they’ll be giving back to the community as well. Local nonprofits, The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada — now referred to as simply The Center — and Nevada PEP (Parents Encouraging Parents) will receive a portion of the proceeds from the event.
The Center is a Las Vegas community-based organization that supports and promotes activities directed at furthering the well-being, positive image and human rights of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community, its allies, and low- to moderate-income residents in Southern Nevada.
Nevada PEP provides information, services and training to Nevada families of children with disabilities — including those who are at risk or have serious emotional disturbances, and their services providers. PEP services are about empowering families to be lifelong advocates for their families through education and skill-building.

The upcoming lineup for the jazz concert series is Diane Schuur, May 26; The Groove Project featuring Oli Silk, Marcus Anderson and JJ Sansaverino, June 2; and Mindi Abair & The Boneshakers, June 16. The jazz concerts will start as early as 6:30 p.m., and admission and parking is free.

“Jazz in the Park is a cultural institution in this town, a free event where we bring some of the biggest names in jazz here,” said Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani, as quoted on the Clark County Parks and Recreation website.
“It’s a great opportunity to enjoy great music in our beautiful amphitheater. Just bring a blanket, some lawn chairs, and something to eat and drink, and enjoy the music and the company of your neighbors and fellow jazz enthusiasts.”
Tickets for Desserts in the Desert are $15 for desserts only, and $30 each for either the dessert pairings or the whiskey master class with dessert pairings. Tickets can be purchased at livetogivegroup.com/dd.
